Set Your Teen Up for Success - Prepare Them for the Unique Demands of Higher Education

Many capable students fall short of their potential at University—not because they lack ability, but because they've not been taught how to manage their own learning.

To manage their learning effectively, students must be able to plan, monitor, and evaluate their work—while also staying motivated and regulating their emotions. In short, they need to become Self-Regulated Learners. But these skills are rarely taught.

The Learner for Life program bridges that gap, equipping students with the tools they need to take charge of their learning.

In six one-hour tutorials, students will gain practical, evidence-based strategies built around the four pillars of self-regulated learning.

✔ Motivation – Learn how to stay focused, set goals, and overcome procrastination
✔ Emotional Regulation – Manage stress, pressure, and study-related anxiety
✔ Cognition – Apply smart, efficient strategies for learning and memory
✔ Metacognition – Reflect, adapt, and take control of their own progress

  • 78% of undergraduates say they struggle with procrastination

  • Over 70% experience weekly stress due to time pressure and poor study habits

  • Only 15–25% consistently use self-regulated learning skills like goal setting, time planning, and reflection

  • 56.5% have considered dropping out due to overwhelm and lack of support

  • 25% say they’d be more motivated if study help were available outside class hours

The Importance of Becoming a Self-Regulated Learner for Success & Thriving in Higher Education...

Self-regulated learning is globally recognised as crucial for success in higher education, career achievement, & realising human potential.

In Australia, 'The Future of Education: An ACT education strategy for the next 10 years (2018)', outlines four educational improvement goals that boil down to the need for students to be self-regulated learners (Dr Shyam Barr)

Until these skills are consistently and explicitly taught in schools, the Learner For Life program is here to help bridge the gap, empowering students to take charge of their learning journey.

The story behind
Learner for Life

Rachael Hadoux (founder) holds a First-Class Honours degree in Psychological Science and is in the final year of her PhD at The University of Melbourne's School of Psychological Sciences.

Throughout her academic journey, Rachael realised a powerful truth: self-regulated learning (SRL) is the cornerstone of academic achievement, career success, and personal growth. Yet, despite its critical importance, SRL is rarely taught explicitly in secondary schools. As a result, many students enter university without the tools they need to manage their learning effectively.

Drawing on her deep expertise in psychology and research, Rachael founded Learner For Life to bridge this gap. By integrating key psychological principles: cognition, metacognition, emotion, and motivation, Learner For Life equips students with the strategies and skills they need to thrive in higher education and beyond.
